Compare credit scorecards with swap set analysis

Compare scorecards before replacing one. Drop in applications scored by the current and new scorecards to see how the portfolio moves between score bands and who swaps in or out at your cut-off.

Applications file

The file is read in this browser and never uploaded, and only band counts are sent if you request the result by email.

These 5,000 generated demo applications have outcomes, and the new score was built to rank better than the current one.

Bands and cut-off

Each score is split into equal-size bands on this file, with band 1 the riskiest. The cut-off approves the chosen number of lowest-risk bands under each scorecard.

Portfolio changing band

70.7%
Swap-in8.5%
Swap-out8.2%
Approved book bad rate4.1% → 3.5%

70.7% of the portfolio changes band. At this cut-off, 8.5% swaps in and 8.2% swaps out. The approved book's bad rate goes from 4.1% under the current scorecard to 3.5% under the new one.

Outcomes exist only for applications that were approved and given time. Applications the current scorecard declined have an outcome only if the file holds one, so read the swap-in bad rate with that in mind.

Score bands: Each score is sorted and cut into equal-size bands, with band 1 the riskiest and equal scores in one band.
Current down, new across = Current score, 1…Bands = New score
Portfolio share = Applications ÷ All applications
Swapped in = At or above the cut-off under the new scorecard, below it under the current scorecard
Swapped out = At or above the cut-off under the current scorecard, below it under the new scorecard
Bad rate = Bad applications ÷ Known outcomes

The bands are equal-size groups from this file, not your own grades. The comparison includes only applications scored by both scorecards.

Swap set analysis for scorecards

Swap set analysis compares how a current and a new scorecard classify the same applications. The tool groups each score into equal-size score bands and shows the portfolio share in each current-to-new band combination.

At a cut-off, the swap set separates applications approved by both scorecards, only the new one, only the current one, or neither. Use the movement and bad rates, where outcomes are available, to assess what changes before testing the new scorecard on past applications.

Common questions

What is swap set analysis when replacing a scorecard?

It compares approvals under the current and new scorecards at the same cut-off. The swap set shows applications approved by only one scorecard, alongside those approved or declined by both.

What are swap-ins and swap-outs in scorecard comparison?

Swap-ins are approved only by the new scorecard at the chosen cut-off. Swap-outs are approved only by the current scorecard at that cut-off.

How do I compare a new credit scorecard with the current one?

Score the same applications with both scorecards, then compare their score bands and the swap set at a cut-off. The tool also shows bad rates when the file includes outcomes.

What does a score band migration matrix show?

It shows the current score band in each row and the new score band in each column. The diagonal shows applications that kept their band, and each cell can show the portfolio share, count, share of the current band, or bad rate.

How can I tell if a new scorecard is better?

Compare the swap-in and swap-out bad rates where outcomes are available, and compare the approved book's bad rates at the same cut-off. The tool shows these results but does not choose a scorecard.
