How repeats are found
Columns named phone, mobile or tel keep their digits and are compared by the last 9. Phone columns are compared only with phone columns. Every other column is lowercased with spaces and punctuation removed before comparison. Values shorter than 3 characters, made of one repeated character, or placeholders such as none are skipped. A value repeats when two or more loans carry it, or when it appears in two columns of the same loan. Same column: Two or more loans carry the value in one column. Across columns: The value appears in two or more different columns. Most loans per value: A value carried by more loans than this is set aside and not coloured. Linked groups: Loans joined by a repeated value, directly or through another loan.
Values are compared exactly after cleaning, so similar spellings do not match. A repeat is a reason to open the loan, because families, colleagues and a shared office phone repeat honestly.
