Delinquency bucket

A delinquency bucket is a range of days past due used to group accounts with a similar level of payment delay. Common buckets include 1 to 30 days and 31 to 60 days, and lenders may apply different collections treatment to each range.

Example

For illustration, an account 18 days past due falls into the 1 to 30 day bucket. If it reaches 37 days past due, it moves into the 31 to 60 day bucket, so the lender may review it under the treatment for that range.

On collections decisioning, days past due and a risk band go into a decision table that sets the treatment and contact channel; days past due comes from the lender’s systems.
