Days past due (DPD)

Days past due (DPD) is the number of days a scheduled payment is overdue, counted from its due date under the lender’s counting convention. Lenders group accounts into DPD ranges so accounts with similar lateness can be handled under the lender’s policy.

Example

For illustration, if a payment is due on 1 June and remains unpaid on 2 June, the account is 1 DPD; on 11 June, it is 10 DPD. A lender might place that account in a 1–30 DPD range until it reaches 31 DPD.

Days past due (DPD) measures overdue days; in collections decisioning, a decision table combines it with a recovery scorecard’s risk band to set the treatment and contact channel.
