Days past due = Date paid − Due date
Late fee = Fixed late fee + Amount due × Late fee percentage
Penalty interest = Amount due × Penalty interest × Days past due ÷ 365
Late charges = min(Late fee + Penalty interest, Late charge cap), When days exceed the grace period
Amount to bring account up to date = Amount due + Late charges

Days past due calculator

Days past due is the number of calendar days between an instalment’s due date and the date it is paid. For an unpaid instalment, use today’s date. The calculator also works out the delinquency bucket and estimates late charges from the contract terms entered.

The figure helps the lender see where a late payment sits and what amount may bring the account up to date. Check the estimate against the loan contract and the lender’s own system, which decide what is charged.

Common questions

How do I calculate days past due on a loan?

Subtract the due date from the date paid, counting calendar days. If the instalment is still unpaid, use today’s date.

What does DPD mean in lending?

DPD means days past due, the calendar days between an instalment’s due date and the date it is paid. The calculator also shows the delinquency bucket for that count.

What are delinquency buckets?

Buckets group accounts by days past due: not past due, 1-30, 31-60, 61-90 or over 90 days. The calculator shows which bucket the payment falls into and the days until the next bucket.

How are late fees and penalty interest calculated?

After the grace period, late charges include the fixed late fee, any percentage fee and penalty interest. Penalty interest is the amount due multiplied by the annual rate and days past due, divided by 365, and a cap limits the total when one is entered.

What does a grace period mean on a loan payment?

It is the number of days after the due date before a late charge applies. When the days past due are within the grace period, the calculator shows no late charge yet.
