A digital system that captures the knowledge and expertise of human specialists to provide guidance and solve complex problems in specific domains.

Example

For illustration, a lender’s expert system could apply a rule that sends an application with verified monthly income of $4,000 and existing monthly debt of $1,000 to manual review. A second matching rule could request proof of income under the lender’s policy.
